Enjoy the Cycling Tour to the Sun Moon Lake: 38 International Students Rode for 180 Kilometers
Under the guide of Prof. Chen Yong-Chern, 38 international students from our New South-bound International Programs of Industry-Academia Collaboration took the challenge of riding back and forth from the school to the Sun Moon Lake within two days. Most of the students were from Vietnam and Indonesia. Chen Siaw-Ting reflected that her biggest dream in Taiwan was to visit the Sun Moon Lake; therefore, she was extremely excited about being able to make it. Vu Thi Hai Yen, a student from Vietnam, said that getting started was the hardest part and this was her first time to ride so far. Originally, she thought it was impossible to make it. However, Prof. Chen constantly encouraged her not to give up so that she completed this long journey successfully.
The President Wen-yuan Chen appreciated students' efforts. He emphasized that for these international students to overcome the difficulties of living and studying in a foreign country, the kind and proper support from the teachers is crucial. With such support, they were able to appreciate the beauty of Taiwan with their very own eyes and feet.
Prof. Chen Tsung-Chia, the chair of Mechanical Engineering, added that this program was very unique. All the first year students studied and lived on campus. In order to improve their Chinese proficiency, the school provided night language courses for free. In their second year of the college life, these students take the internship in the companies from Monday to Thursday and attend classes on Friday. They have to make a good balance between work and study. Prof. Chen Yong-Chern expected students to see regular exercise as an essential part in life. As he suggested, doing sports can not only cultivate body and spirit but also release the stress.
